Kimberly McCreight is one of my favorite authors; I’ve read almost her entire body of work aside from her young adult offerings. So when I got approved for her brand new book, out this summer, I was so excited! I love mysteries and thrillers, and McCreight never disappoints me. I read this novel slowly because I really wanted to savor it as much as possible. I was immediately drawn into the novel: an epic mountain climb that ends in murder? Sign me up immediately! This book is one of my favorites of 2026 and the summer; I loved it and the twist at the end threw me for a loop! Kimberly McCreight has knocked it out of the park again! I will be shouting about this book from the rooftops!

Gretchen Falk lives a charmed, nearly perfect life: a beautiful apartment, gorgeous children, and a loving, faithful husband. So when she tries to convince Richard to not make the climb up Mount Kilamanjaro, she is understandably worried and upset. Richard makes the climb with a group of college friends and a young woman named Frankie Callahan, a young artist who is fleeing her own demons. But not everyone comes back down from the mountain, and soon Richard is accused of a brutal murder. Trapped in a dangerous and deadly love triangle, Gretchen must find out the truth, or risk losing everything she’s ever held dear…

This book was such a wild ride! I was immediately immersed in this book, constantly wondering what the big twist was going to be. The pacing was fast but smooth. Sometimes when you’re jumping between timelines, it can get confusing, so I really appreciated the dates on every chapter! I really liked the viewpoints, the way that they switched between Gretchen and Frankie. I was constantly wondering about Richard, and the secrets all three of them had to hide. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the ending, and I was still wrong! I was so shocked and surprised! This book was such a fun, nail-biting thriller, and it’s a book I would highly recommend taking to the beach! I loved this book, every terse, crazy moment, and I will never forget it! One of my favorite books of the summer and the year! The bottom line: Dark, mysterious, and shocking, I loved Someone Else’s Husband!
