Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers Review

Title: Dark Triumph
Author: Robin LaFevers
Age Group: Teen/Young Adult
Genre: Historical Fiction/Fantasy
Series: His Fair Assassin, book two
Star Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
The bottom line: Even better than Grave Mercy, the sequel to it had me crying, laughing, and loving, especially the main character, Sybella.

Sybella is a handmaiden of Death, born as a noblewoman to a rich family. But when she is sent back into the dark hole that is her family and childhood, she fears she will go mad from the ghosts of the past haunting her. Her abbess gives her an assignment: free a knight from her father's dungeons and kill her father. On this quest, she finds love, acceptance, faith, and purpose, and it was a wonderful journey to travel with her.

What I loved:
-Sybella and her tortured past
-Beast, and the men who follow him
-Ismae's small role in the second novel
-Tephanie
-Julian, for the most part
-Yannic
-The continuing explanation in the mythology of the series--I can't wait for Mortal Heart!
-Anne
-The abbess of Saint Mer

What I didn't like:
-The abbess
-Jamette
-Madame Dinan
-Most of Sybella's family
-The horrible, tortured scene that traumatized Sybella so completely

I loved Dark Triumph--it was a beautiful book! If any of you love girl power novels or historical fiction, I'd recommend the His Fair Assassin series. (The third and last novel, Mortal Heart, comes out in Spring 2014.) Next on deck: Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride!
