The Wizard Heir by Cinda Williams Chima Review

Title: The Wizard Heir
Author: Cinda Williams Chima
Age Group: Teen/Young Adult
Genre: Fantasy
Series: The Heir Chronicles, book two
Star Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
The bottom line: A worthy sequel to a smash hit, I loved The Wizard Heir--every bit as good as the book before it--an amazing, rollicking adventure I couldn't put down! Amazing!

Seph McCauley is a kid who's used to being in trouble. Though he is good-looking, charismatic, and popular, he also seems to have a knack for disaster--quite literally. After a tragic mishap, he is shipped off to an exclusive boys' school in Maine, where he finds a headmaster who is using his students for a wicked agenda.. As if this all weren't bad enough for one kid, he has to master his Wizard powers, before he goes insane!

What I enjoyed:
-The breakneck pacing, despite it being a little bit slow at the beginning
-Seph as a character, thoroughly layered and a great protagonist--I liked him immediately and was rooting for him throughout the novel
-The complex, frightening villain in Leicester, throughout the novel, as frightening as a poisonous spider
-The further explanation into the lore of the novel, especially Wizards, and Weirlind itself
-The constant twists and turns I felt throughout the novel--I couldn't guess what was coming
-The cameos of Jack, Ellen, Hastings, Becka, and Linda in the Wizard Heir, and a few others as well
-The ending, explosive and wonderful and perfect--I'm looking forward to the sequel

What I didn't enjoy:
-Most of the boys at Seph's school, with the exception of Peter and Trevor
-The beginning was a little slow

I really enjoyed The Wizard Heir--it wasn't a half-bad sequel! The whole series is definitely a treat worth reading! Next on deck: Entice by Jessica Shirvington!
